What Is a Character House Overlay?

Character overlays are used by councils to manage change in areas where older housing, streetscape rhythm, materials and building form contribute to local identity.

For homeowners, the practical point is simple: if a property is affected by a character or heritage control, changes to the building may need closer review before design or demolition decisions are made.
